CA, 23 Apr 2021
Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, will update the COVID-19 situation in the province on Thursday afternoon.

Due to a technical issue, the province was only able to provide limited COVID-19 numbers on Wednesday. Alberta Health identified 1,699 new cases of COVID-19 and 1,332 variants cases were confirmed.

There were a total of 35,685 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Alberta on Wednesday, bringing the provincial total to more than 1.23 million doses administered overall.

On Wednesday evening, the provincial government passed legislation that would allow employees three hours of paid leave to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The legislation says Alberta workers can not be fired or disciplined for using the leave and can be used for both COVID-19 vaccination appointments if two doses are required.
