BC officials provide update after torrential rains cause flooding, landsides | LIVE

CA, 16 Nov 2021
Officials in Abbotsford, British Columbia, are expected to provide an update Tuesday after torrential rains drenched many parts of the province on Sunday and Monday, triggering landslides and washing out multiple roads.

Some areas received 8 inches of rain on Sunday – the amount they usually see in a month – and the deluge continued on Monday, with roads covered by mud or up to 10 inches of water. All major highways connecting the lower mainland to the rest of B.C. have been affected.

The community of Merritt has also been ordered to evacuate due to rising floodwaters and it is not known when residents will be allowed home, while Canadian Forces Cormorant helicopters on Monday started flights to rescue approximately 275 people, including 50 children, stranded between debris from two mudslides in Agassiz.
