UN climate talks in Scotland ended on November 13, 2021, with an agreement by member states to start winding down the use of coal, the first explicit mention of fossil fuels in a UN climate deal. This followed the two-week COP26 conference that culminated in more than 190 countries signing the agreement, which seeks to maintain a realistic chance of saving the world from catastrophic climate change. The agreement comes despite a last-gasp intervention from China and India, watering down language on fossil fuels.
