Indonesia's Mount Semeru: Drone footage shows village covered by volcano ash

Telegraph, 09 Dec 2021
Drone footage taken on Wednesday December 8 captured an Indonesian village and its surrounding areas, affected by the recent eruptions of Mount Semeru, covered in mud and ash.

Local residents of Curah Kobokan, one of the areas worst-hit by the eruptions, were also seen retrieving items from houses with collapsed roofs, as search and rescue teams operated in the vicinity.

Semeru, the tallest mountain on the island of Java, had erupted dramatically on Saturday, before erupting again on Monday.

On Tuesday, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited the disaster zone and said at least 2,000 homes would need to be relocated to safer areas. Thousands of people have been displaced, 22 remain missing and infrastructure damaged during the eruption.
