COVID-19: Ontario's top doctor gives update as Omicron variant reported in province | LIVE

CA, 29 Nov 2021
Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore is expected to provide an update on COVID-19 on Monday after the first two known Canadian cases of the Omicron variant were detected in the province.

The province reported the two cases in Ottawa, both in people who recently travelled to Nigeria. The government added that Ottawa's public health unit was conducting case and contact management and the patients were in isolation.

The news came as new cases were beginning to be reported in various countries globally, including Australia and the Netherlands.

On Friday, the Canadian government announced foreign nationals from seven southern African countries would be barred from entering Canada by air travel and that Canadians and permanent residents coming from those countries would be required to get a COVID-19 test and have to quarantine.

The province reported 964 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, with one more death reported.
