In full: Nicola Sturgeon calls for tougher travel restrictions as omicron 'spreads in community'

Telegraph, 29 Nov 2021
Nicola Sturgeon, the first minister, called for a four-nations approach to the omicron risk.

She has spoken to Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford – and they are calling for Boris Johnson to convene a Cobra meeting on the issue in the "early part of this week". This is a moment for "collective, national vigilance," she said.

Scotland has beefed up travel restrictions, in line with the UK. Scottish and Welsh governments are now calling for eight-day self-isolation restrictions for all new arrivals to UK, with PCR tests on days two and eight.

Ms Sturgeon noted that the omicron carriers in Scotland had not travelled to South Africa, which suggests there is community transmission.
