Chinese President Xi Jinping got a first-hand look at preparations for the upcoming Winter Olympics to be held in the capital Beijing as well as the northern province of Hebei in February 2022. With just over a year to go before the event, organisers are trying to overcome setbacks including a recent coronavirus outbreak in the region, and international calls for a boycott of the Beijing Winter Games over reported human rights violations in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
