The bitter fight between Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and her predecessor Alex Salmond is “an absolutely incredible civil war” - and whether it brings down Ms Sturgeon is “in the lap of the Gods”.

That’s the opinion of Alan Cochrane, a columnist for The Telegraph and former Scottish Editor.

“There's no doubt there are some members of the SNP who are on Alex Salmond's side in this,” he said. 

“If the issue goes to a vote in the Scottish Parliament - should Nicola Sturgeon resign if she's found guilty of misleading the Parliament? 

“That vote would be on a knife edge as to which way it jumped.”
