Coronavirus: Canada to require negative COVID-19 test at land borders next week | FULL
CA, 10 Feb 2021
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday that anyone who shows up at a land border with the U.S. will be required to have taken a COVID-19 test 72 hours before seeking entry.
The new measures will kick in on Feb. 15.
Should those Canadians or permanent residents not be able to provide that test result, they could face “severe penalties,” including fines of up to $3,000 per person. Trudeau said his government will also be implementing new measures to ensure “extensive follow up by Health Canada” to ensure they are getting tested and properly quarantining.
Canada reported 2,967 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 808,124.
