Myanmar coup: Protesters pelt police with debris as street clashes continue
CA, 10 Feb 2021
Police in Myanmar, also known as Burma, fired water cannons at protesters in the country's capital Naypyitaw and other several cities including Bago on Tuesday, as the crowds protesting against the military's seizure of power refused to disperse, defying a ban on large gatherings and curfews in some areas.
One witness in the capital Naypyitaw said demonstrators ran and scattered when shots were heard during the street protest.
Police have been using water cannons to try to push back large crowds, but demonstrators have responded by tossing projectiles.
The Feb. 1 coup and detention of elected civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi has brought four straight days of protests across the Southeast Asian country of 53 million and a growing civil disobedience movement affecting hospitals, schools and government offices.
