Coronavirus: Genomic sequence testing to detect new variants ramping up in Canada

As new, highly contagious variants of COVID-19 spread across Canada, provinces are ramping up their tracking efforts amid pressure to lift restrictions.

One of these methods is called genomic sequencing, which is needed in order detect the new variants.

While provinces are looking to reopening schools and the economy as case numbers and hospitalizations drop, the variants could change that trajectory. Eric Sorensen looks at how genomic sequencing works and its impact on testing.
