Biden tours new Taiwanese chip-making plant in Arizona, fans US-China semiconductor rivalry

US President Joe Biden toured a new chip-manufacturing plant in Phoenix, Arizona on December 6, 2022, after the installation of the first piece of production equipment. The plant is one of two that Taiwanese chip maker TSMC will build in the state. The project represents the Biden administration’s efforts to boost domestic chip production and cut reliance on overseas suppliers.
