Tensions have risen in Myanmar following mass protests, with tanks deployed in the streets and reports from residents of an internet blackout.

Security forces opened fire on demonstrators at a power plant, and armoured vehicles rolled into major cities as the new army rulers faced a ninth day of anti-coup demonstrations.
