Police said on Tuesday that at least 42 passengers died when a bus fell from a bridge into a canal in central India.
The accident took place at around 7:30 a.m. local time when the driver of the bus from Sidhi to Satna town in central Madhya Pradesh state lost control, according to local media reports.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief regarding the incident in a tweet, which read: "Bus accident in MP's Sidhi is horrific. Condolences to the bereaved families. The local administration is actively involved in rescue and relief work".
Footage shows the rescue operation unfolding as emergency services and local authorities attempted to retrieve the bodies of the victims from submerged bus.
Local residents are seen in the video lining the canal banks of where the bus crashed earlier in the day.
