With three months left in 2022, Australia’s largest city Sydney has already recorded its wettest year, with 2,213 millimetres (87 inches) of rain. Scientists link the unusual event to a warmer climate and the La Nina phenomenon, which is happening for three consecutive years in the Australian east coast.
