UN rights office gets mandate to document Sri Lanka war crimes
Al Jazeera, 24 Mar 2021
The UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution giving UN rights chief Michelle Bachelet a mandate to collect evidence of war crimes committed during Sri Lanka’s 1983-2009 civil war.
The resolution also criticised Sri Lanka's judicial system, saying it was getting less impartial and that minority groups faced discrimination.
But the government says the resolution is politically motivated.
