Canadian officials provide update on COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Indigenous communities | LIVE
CA, 25 Mar 2021
Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller alongside Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan is expected to hold a press conference Wednesday with other health officials to provide an update on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout progress in First Nations and Indigenous communities.
Sajjan is expected to provide details on COVID-19 vaccination efforts in remote communities across Canada.
A new report from a committee of MPs who spent the last year studying the effects of COVID-19 on Indigenous populations in Canada shows that communities are struggling to cope with dual states of emergency, thanks to the pandemic and its effects on those with mental illness and addictions.
The federal Liberals have committed $82.5 million in new funding for better access to mental health services during COVID-19, in addition to $425 million in existing annual funding earmarked for Indigenous mental health.
