Raptors president Masai Ujiri recounts “surreal” feeling at deadline after not trading Kyle Lowry
CA, 26 Mar 2021
Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri spoke Thursday after the NBA’s 3 p.m. trade deadline passed without the team trading face of the franchise point guard Kyle Lowry and recalled the “circus” in the days leading up to the deadline with rumours swirling that the unrestricted point guard would be dealt.
“We came to a point that we were comfortable with any direction that it went. Honestly to see all the circus yesterday you know like I also didn’t feel like maybe that was the right way to go,” Ujiri said of potentially trading Lowry adding “it seemed surreal a little bit.”
Toronto did make a splash during Thursday’s deadline by trading guard-forward Norman Powell to the Portland Trailblazers for Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood.
The Raptors also flipped guards Terence Davis to the Sacramento Kings and Matt Thomas to the Utah Jazz, both for future second round picks.
