Mourners line streets as coffin of Tanzania's former president arrives in capital
CA, 22 Mar 2021
Mourners lined the streets, with some even running or biking ahead of the motorcade, to pay their respects for Tanzania's former president, John Pombe Magufuli, as his coffin arrived in the capital city of Dodoma.
Earlier in the day a state funeral was held for the former president at Uhuru Stadium in Dar Es Salaam, with another service to take place Monday in the capital.
Magufuli, who was one of Africa's most prominent coronavirus skeptics, died Wednesday at the age of 61, after a more than two-week absence from public life that led to speculation about his health. His successor, Samia Suluhu Hassan -- the country's first female president, said he died of heart disease. He was the country's first president to die while in office.
