Global National: Sept. 22, 2022 | Hurricane Fiona on track to blast through Atlantic Canada

On this episode of Global National: Hurricane Fiona is forecast to pass nearby Bermuda early Friday, and will hit the easternmost part of Canada early Saturday. Ross Lord hears concerns about the storm and what preparations are being made ahead of the hurricane’s arrival in Atlantic Canada.

Turning to the war in Ukraine, more than 200 Ukrainian and foreign citizens have been released from Russian captivity, including fighters who led the defence of the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol. As Redmond Shannon reports, this is the biggest prisoner swap since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February.

And in Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau returned to question period in Ottawa’s House of Commons, where he faced Pierre Poilievre for the first time since he became the new leader of the Conservative Party. David Akin reports on the fiery exchanges that happened.

The Ontario government is failing to disclose the names of “high-risk” foster care and group homes to children’s aid societies – the organizations responsible for placing kids in care, Global News has learned. Carolyn Jarvis has that story.

Finally, two brothers are vying for the same mayoral position in Port Colborne, Ont. As Mike Drolet reports, both brothers haven’t spoken to each other in about three decades, with the election taking place on Oct. 24.
