India has reported more than 300,000 new COVID-19 cases in one day, the highest number reported anywhere in the world since the pandemic began.

The total cases across the country has now reached almost 16 million, with the state of Maharashtra which includes Mumbai the worst affected. Deaths have also increased by more than 2,000 to reach a total of 184,657.
