India: 'My mother died in agony' from Covid after an oxygen tank leak at hospital

Telegraph, 22 Apr 2021
The daughter of a COVID patient who died due to an oxygen supply leak in western India on Wednesday says her mother "died in agony".

A local administrator in western India said 22 patients died in the Zakir Hussain Hospital hospital in Nashik when their oxygen supply was interrupted by a leakage in a supply tank.

The daughter, whose name was not given, said her mother had been at the hospital for five days and that she had "recovered" from the worst of her COVID illness when she died due to oxygen deprivation.

"There was no oxygen, she died in agony, she had trouble breathing, she died. Everyone there (in the ward) died," she said.

India is facing a huge health crisis as oxygen supplies are running low in hospitals and the number of new Covid cases has broken a world record.
