Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny was arrested by police at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo international airport on January 18, 2021. He will be detained for 30 days for violating the terms of a suspended jail sentence he was given in 2014. Navalny said on Instagram that a makeshift courtroom was set up at the police station in Khimki where he was being held. The arrest of the critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin happened upon his first return home from Germany since he was poisoned in August 2020 by a military-grade nerve agent.
