Breaking news - Ukraine's armed forces have warned there is a “major danger” of imminent Russian missile attacks, after its air defences foiled an overnight drone strike.

The military said its anti-aircraft defences had shot down all 24 drones fired by Russia, including 15 around Kyiv. There were no reports of damage.

Authorities have declared an air raid alert for the whole country this morning, with officials telling the public to take shelter.

“There's a major danger of further aviation and missile attack across the entire territory (of Ukraine),” the Ukrainian military said .

The attacks come after the United States and Germany announced plans to arm Ukraine with dozens of modern battle tanks on Wednesday, which Russia denounced as an “extremely dangerous” step.
