At least nine people were injured by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck China’s northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai on January 8, 2022. Security cameras captured the moment the quake struck, shaking buildings and sending cattle fleeing as a flash of light lit up the sky. The 1.50am quake was recorded as originating from a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre. Over 4,000 houses were damaged by the quake in Qinghai, and in neighbouring Gansu province another 4,830 houses in Zhangye city were damaged. A small section of the Great Wall of China also reportedly collapsed in the province.
