Foreign aid to Tonga hampered by strict Covid rules

BBC, 23 Jan 2022
International aid is arriving in Tonga one week after it was hit by a devastating tsunami, but its distribution is being delayed as officials attempt to keep Covid out of the island nation.

Several villages are still without basic necessities such as water and shelter.

Countries such as the UK, Japan, New Zealand and Australia have sent aid but much of it remains in Fiji, where the coordination process is taking place.
