COVID-19: Alberta education minister updates return to school plan | LIVE

CA, 06 Jan 2022
Alberta Education Minister Adriana LaGrange will be joined by chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw to provide an update on the province's plan for students in kindergarten to grade 12 to return to school.

LaGrange announced on Dec. 30 that the province was extending the student winter break until Jan. 10, 2022 amid the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.

During the province's COVID-19 update on Tuesday Premier Jason Kenney said his government was committed to students getting back into classes on Jan. 10 and that it was not on the COVID-19 cabinet committee agenda scheduled for Wednesday.

On Tuesday Alberta's Opposition NDP called on the province to provide better COVID-19 supports for students when they returned to class.

NDP education critic Sarah Hoffman asked for more information on infection rates and that N-95 masks be made available for students along with high-efficiency air filters in schools.
