Tokyo Olympics: Teen skateboarders inspire while Canadian women continue medal streak

CA, 27 Jul 2021
Skateboarding is already inspiring younger hopefuls in its Summer Olympic debut in the Tokyo 2020 games, as teenagers dominated the podium at women's skateboarding.

Two 13-year-olds, Japan's Momiji Nishiya and Brazil's Rayssa Leal, took the gold and silver medals respectively, while 16-year-old Funa Nakayama took the bronze. As Mike Drolet explains, more skater girls are already looking to follow in their tracks, to change the face of a male-dominated sport.

Meanwhile, Crystal Goomansingh looks at how Canadian women are keeping up their streak of medals, as swimmer Maggie Mac Neil nabbed her country's first gold medal of the games during the 100-metre butterfly, while Jessica Klimkait became the first Canadian woman to medal in judo.
