Siswanto, a 38-year-old Indonesian who found success on YouTube, is now teaching his neighbours how to start and grow audiences on their own channels on the video-sharing platform. Siswanto was working as a mechanic in Kasegeran, one of the poorest villages in the Banyumas regency in central Indonesia, and struggled to support his family even with multiple side jobs on hand. He had never thought of making money from YouTube until he saw a business opportunity from posting videos with easy-to-follow motorbike repair tutorials. His channel has now accumulated over 2 million YouTube subscribers and generates up to 150 million rupiah (US$10,000) every month.
