'It means a lot': Emma Raducanu eases through to US Open quarter-finals

Emma Raducanu defeated Shelby Rogers at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and secured a place in the US Open quarter-finals.

The teenage sensation eased her way into the quarter-finals for the loss of just three games, then looked up at the gigantic stands with wide, wondering eyes.

Less than three months ago, Raducanu was a schoolgirl waiting for her A-Level results and wondering whether she might be granted a wild card into Wimbledon.

Now she is preparing to play Olympic champion Belinda Bencic for a place in the last four of the US Open.

Her 6-2, 6-1 victory over Shelby Rogers – the last American in the women’s singles – was watched by Britain’s greatest female player Virginia Wade.
