Calls are growing for the B.C. government to declare a state of emergency over the growing number of wildfires affecting communities, with thousands of people under evacuation orders or alerts.
Air quality alerts are in place for about half the province and most fires are clustered in southeastern B.C.
But as Catherine Urquhart explains, the premier says he’ll make an emergency declaration – but only when the timing is right.
