Nova Scotia provincial election called for Aug. 17

CA, 17 Jul 2021
Nova Scotia Liberal Leader Iain Rankin called for a provincial election on Saturday that is to be held Aug. 17, in hopes of securing a third consecutive term for his Party.

Rankin was sworn in as premier less than five months ago, replacing Stephen McNeil.

At the request of the premier, Nova Scotia Lt-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc dissolved the legislature Saturday morning — kicking off what will roughly be a one-month campaign.

The date for the summer election is August 17.

Summer-election speculation has been swirling for weeks, with Premier Iain Rankin and the governing Liberals making almost daily funding announcements since late June. The parties have also had their candidates canvassing neighbourhoods in the gear-up to an election call everyone seemed to know was coming.
