Wildfires rage in Siberia’s Yakutia, residents advised to stay home
Al Jazeera, 19 Jul 2021
More than 2,500 firefighters are battling around 180 wildfires burning across Russia's Siberia.
Yakutia is one of the worst-affected regions and has been in a state of emergency for weeks.
Officials have warned residents to stay indoors to avoid the smoke.
This year's fires are more intense due to unusually high temperatures caused by a prolonged drought.
In June, the Arctic Circle recorded a temperature of 38C - a record for the region which scientists have blamed on climate change.
