Psaki defends Biden's decision not to visit Texas border during migrant crisis

CA, 25 Sep 2021
In a testy exchange with a reporter on Friday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki defended President Joe Biden’s decision not to visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas himself, to get a firsthand account of the migrant situation.

“What would you like him to do at the southern border?” Psaki asked the reporter.

The press secretary said Biden feels he can be most “constructive” by pushing forward immigration reform.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said during the White House press briefing that the department ‘does not tolerate’ mistreatment of migrants, following videos and images that purport to show border control agents on horseback whipping migrants at the Mexico-U.S. border in Texas.

He added that results of an investigation would be made public and that the agents involved were on administrative duty.
