Angela Merkel and climate: Where she succeeded and where she failed

Angela Merkel has been celebrated over the last 16 years as a global leader in combating climate change. In Germany, however, her record as a climate chancellor is mixed. As she reaches the end of her time in charge, we ask what Chancellor Merkel has done on climate policy – and where has she come up short. We examine how the world’s most powerful woman pushed for more climate action globally while giving in to the interests of Germany’s mighty car companies – and has tried to catch up on climate action in her final years in office.
