The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and an advisory panel for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have largely approved the use of a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Officials say Americans aged 65 years and older, and those 18 and up who have a high risk for severe disease should receive a booster shot.
