Demonstrations erupted across major cities in Myanmar on May 11, 2021, to mark 100 days since the February 1 military coup. The ousting of the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi ended a decade of economic reforms and tentative steps toward democracy. A civil disobedience movement has emerged since then to protest against military rule. Clashes between security forces and protesters have killed more than 750 people.
