After a decade of experimentation, three farmers in Malaysia say they have cracked the code for growing luxury Japanese muskmelons in the country. One of the world’s most expensive fruits, muskmelons thrive in temperate conditions, such as those in Japan. To overcome the challenges of growing them in Malaysia’s tropical climate, the farmers travelled to Japan to learn the cultivation methods there and replicate them in their home country. Through trial and error, the farmers eventually came up with a technique to grow the prized fruit in Malaysia: by massaging the melons and playing classical music.
