Alberta’s top doctor offers COVID-19 update for the province | FULL

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw is scheduled to update the COVID-19 situation in the province on Thursday afternoon.

Alberta has reached a milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination program, surpassing the one-million mark for doses administered.

As of April 13, Alberta administered 1,004,123 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, with 194,012 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.

Alberta reported 1,412 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, along with eight additional deaths from the disease.

Also Wednesday, 778 variants of concern were identified in the province. Variants now make up about 52.6 per cent of all active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.

About 15,738 tests were completed, putting the province’s positivity rate at 9.1 per cent.

The eight new fatalities bring the province’s death toll from the disease to 2,029.
