The attorney for former police officer Derek Chauvin, accused of killing George Floyd, asked for the jury to be sequestered, fearing the recent unrest in Minnesota could impact eventual deliberations.

People took to the streets again after a 20-year-old Black man was fatally shot by police on Sunday. Police released footage of the incident saying it was an “accidental discharge” by an officer who drew her gun instead of her taser during a struggle.

Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill denied the request, though he plans to sequester jurors by confining them to a hotel once they begin deliberations in downtown Minneapolis. Jackson Proskow has the story.
