"We can’t stop here": Biden, Harris react to Chauvin's guilty verdict in Floyd murder
CA, 21 Apr 2021
U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris reacted on Tuesday to the guilty verdict delivered to former Minnesota officer Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd, a Black man.
Floyd died after Chauvin kneeled on his neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds during an arrest on May 25, 2020.
A jury in Minnesota found Chauvin, 45, guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Biden said after the verdict that he had spoken with the family of George Floyd, adding that he assured them his administration would continue its fight to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
Biden said verdicts like those delivered by the Minnesota jury are “far too rare.”
“It’s not enough,” Biden said. “We can’t stop here.”
Harris there is still “work to do” following the guilty verdict and emphasized the efforts still needed to stamp out systemic racism.
