Effects of Canada's residential schools still felt today, advocates say

Canadians have been mourning the discovery of an unmarked burial site at a residential school in Kamloops, B.C.

But Indigenous leaders and experts say the uncovering of the remains of 215 children is not an isolated incident.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC), a body mandated to tell Canadians about the truth of residential schools, spent years collecting survivors’ stories and compiling historical evidence of what happened there.
