The Baihetan Hydropower Station in southwest China is preparing to start operations on July 1, 2021. The power plant, which lies on the Yangtze’s Jinsha River, will provide renewable electricity to millions of people along its route. While the giant dam is seen as a way to boost renewable energy production and help meet China’s target of carbon neutrality by 2060, critics have questioned its clean credentials.
