Afghanistan: At least 58 dead as blasts strike Kabul schools

At least 58 people, most of them schoolgirls, were killed after multiple blasts tore through crowds of students leaving a west Kabul school.

Images of the aftermath showed bodies lying in the street and bloodied schoolgirls lying in hospital beds, while people queued to give blood.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which struck a Shia Muslim neighbourhood that has been repeatedly targeted by the Islamic State group.

The Taliban denied being behind the attack and blamed Islamic State militants.
