Hundreds of community pantries have been set up around the Philippines to help residents cope with strict coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Local people have been sharing food and essential supplies as the nation imposes the measures to fight a surge in new infections. The surge has left many of the nation’s hospitals on the verge of collapse as the number of cases logged since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic topped 1 million on April 26, 2021. The Philippines has the second-highest caseload in Southeast Asia after Indonesia.
