On April 6, #Brazil recorded more than 4,000 COVID-19-related deaths in 24 hours. Hospitals are overcrowded with people dying as they wait for treatment in some cities, and the health system is on the brink of collapse in many areas. However, thousands of people refuse to obey the rules of isolation and social distancing, and continue to gather in crowds without wearing masks in bars, restaurants, and parties. The local administration in Rio de Janeiro launched in late March a counter-offensive to tackle the spread of the virus: a program involving more than a thousand enforcers to ensure social isolation measures are respected. In this video, Brenno Carnevale, Secretary of Public Security of Rio de Janeiro, explains how teams of the Rio local police fight against the #coronavirus.#Police
