"Complacency" responsible for COVID-19 crisis in India, says doctor

CA, 30 Apr 2021
Dr. Diptendra Sarkar, an oncologist and consultant surgeon in India, accused the government of “complacency” in its approach to the COVID-19 crisis, saying that as cases surged in the country they “allowed it to happen.”

Sarkar added that people in India had a “casual” approach to the vaccination during the first wave, adding that now with the massive lineups at vaccination centres there was a potential for “super-spreader events.”

The doctor also called out the “indiscriminate use of Remdesivir,” which lead to a scarcity of the drug.
