Trudeau says Canada looking at phased approach to easing US border restrictions | FULL

CA, 18 Jun 2021
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday that Canada is looking at a phased approach to ease travel restrictions over the Canada-U.S. border.

The PM said they want to see vaccination rates of at least 75 per cent of people with one dose and 20 per cent with both doses before they look at re-opening the land border with the U.S.

Seventy-five per cent of eligible Canadians have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while at least 18 per cent are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The border will remain closed for at least another month, Bill Blair, the federal minister of public safety, announced earlier Friday.

Blair took to Twitter to make the announcement, saying “in coordination with the U.S., we are extending restrictions on non-essential international travel and with the United States until July 21st, 2021.”
