Trudeau delivers remarks, speaks with reporters in BC | FULL

CA, 25 May 2022
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to deliver remarks and hold a media availability in B.C. on Tuesday, a day after he attended a memorial ceremony marking one year since members of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc learned 215 suspected unmarked graves had been found near the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.

Trudeau delivered remarks at the ceremony, saying the discovery had marked a reckoning for Canadians and that there was more work to be done.

He also said the federal government would provide help to communities if they decide to move forward with the process of searching for potential unmarked graves, as well as for communities that proceed with the exhumation and repatriation of those graves. However, he did not say if the government would commit to the tens of millions likely needed for such a process.
