Trudeau provides update on Canada's COVID-19 response, vaccine rollout | LIVE

CA, 23 Apr 2021
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to provide an update Friday on the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside Procurement Minister Anita Anand.

Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin announced on Thursday that Canada is facing COVID-19 vaccine delivery shortages from Moderna due to “intense” global demand for the vaccines. However, Fortin added that Pfizer vaccine shipments will continue to arrive according to schedule.

Through a bilateral agreement, 20 million doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine are expected to funnel into Canada from manufacturing plants in the U.S. over the second and third quarters of this year.

Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau will also receive their first doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, according to the prime minister’s office.

On Thursday, Canada banned flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days amid concerns over rising COVID-19 cases and a new virus mutation.
